Fifty years ago, public housing complexes were still considered to be a viable means of providing affordable homes. The Morrison administration mounted a massive effort to clear slum areas and relocate displaced residents in public housing. In 1953, 1860 new units were under construction in the Desire Project. The Calliope and Magnolia Projects were also undergoing expansion.  |
