New Orleans: Gateway to the Americas

Price-Current, 1845

This page from the Price-Current of January 1, 1845 documents one week of commerce between New Orleans and its contemporary trading ports, including a number situated in Latin American. It identifies ships hailing from those ports and the merchants to whom their cargoes were consigned. It carries advertisements for products from the region. The report on market conditions in Havana in particular suggests the importance of trade between the Crescent City and the Cuban capital.
