African Americans in New Orleans: Learning

The Works Progress Administration (WPA) provided work and training to many New Orleanians during the days of the Great Depression. Black men and women, boys and girls all shared in the varied educational programs offered through the federal government. WPA classes, of course, like those in the public schools of the day, were segregated.
